G-d told Moses to tell the Pharoh to let all the Jewish people free or G-d will turn all the water to blood. If a Jew and an Egyptian were drinking from the same cup, the Jew drank water while for the Egyptian it turned to blood. The only way the Egyptians were able to get water was if they bought it from a Jew.
